WHAT IS A WATERFALL CARDIGAN?
The humble cardigan has been a reliable friend throughout history and doesn’t have to be old-fashioned, it’s all about how you wear it and what style you choose. We’re here to talk about the versatility and merits of a waterfall cashmere cardigan and debunk a few myths whilst we are at it. A favourite of our customers, when a waterfall cardigan lands on our website it isn’t there for long! So what exactly is a waterfall cardigan, are they flattering and how do I wear one?
What is a waterfall cardigan?
A waterfall cardigan is a buttonless cardigan style, which hangs in folds at the front. The front is usually longer at the back. The waterfall cardigan does not have buttons to fasten up, as it is designed to hang neatly like an open cardigan.
Are waterfall cardigans flattering?
Absolutely, the folds and length of the front of a waterfall cardigan makes it a good choice if you want to hide a tummy. Waterfall cardigans sit well on most body shapes and provide a flattering silhouette. The longer length at the front creates the illusion of length, and also the folds at the front cover any bumps you may want to hide.
Are waterfall cardigans still in?
Waterfall cardigans are one of those items of clothing which will never be ‘in’ or ‘out’. There is such a varied range of cardigans styles that there will always be one to suit the occasion. Cardigans are currently on trend, our most popular style this winter was cashmere cardigans, and continues to be cardigans - we can hardly keep up!
Do cardigans make you look old?
Some may fear that the waterfall cardigan, or perhaps any other kind of cardigan, can make you look old. This may be because of the long traditional history of cardigans and how they have been worn and loved for many years. In our experience, cardigans are so versatile and vary greatly, so there is no need to worry about cardigans making you look ‘old’. Just ensure you are choosing the right style of cardigan to suit your preference and shape and you will be good to go.
How to style a cashmere cardigan?
A waterfall cardigan can be styled in many ways. A long cardigan looks elegant paired with a simple pair of jeans and jewellery. Alternatively you could add a belt to a waterfall cardigan to create a belted cardigan. This is great as the belt can cinch you in at the waist and also gives you that cozy cardigan feel, especially as you are unable to button a waterfall cardigan. Oversized cardigans are currently on trend and the waterfall cardigan can give the illusion of an oversized fit due to the length and style of the cardigan. So versatile!
Heading into the warmer seasons, especially here in the UK, the weather can sometimes catch you out. Having a cashmere cardigan ready as an extra layer can be a lifesaver when a chilly breeze comes! Layering a cashmere cardigan can not only provide a layer of warmth, but also adds interest to an outfit and a pop of colour to your look.
