5 ways we are sustainable
5 WAYS WE ARE SUSTAINABLE
...AND 5 MORE WAYS YOU CAN BE SUSTAINABLE
In this day and age sustainability is important for our planet. However, we're often told that in order to be sustainable we have to make drastic changes that can be expensive (buying an electric car). This blog features 5 ways we aim to be sustainable followed by 5 ways you can become more sustainable yourself.
1.
The majority of our second hand cashmere jumpers have been discarded and without us some of it would end up in landfill.
2.
We make most of our accessories from recycled jumpers that don't meet out high standards. Cutting out the best bits to make gloves, beanies, neck warmers and more...
3.
Some customers donate their old unwanted cashmere jumpers and some exchange the for credit that can be used both on the website and in store.
4.
We also offer a repairs service to increase the lifetime of cashmere jumpers. Often we will use elbow patches and appliqués that have been made from old jumpers.
5.
Our brand new stock comes from a mill in Scotland so hasn't travelled far. It consists of remaindered stock and items that have been knitted from leftover yarn.
5 WAYS YOU CAN BE MORE SUSTAINABLE.
1.
We're not going to tell you that you have to go vegan but even just eating vegetarian one night a week could do some good. We also recommend buying your food more seasonally and locally!
As a lover of all things meat even I can vouch for cauliflower steak...
2.
Don't throw away old phones. Either sell them, give them away or recycle them. Over 50% of gadgets we throw away are still working and could be made useful by someone else.
3.
Extend the life of your clothes by either repairing them yourself of sending them to be repaired. If you've got a hole in one of your cashmere jumpers, send it to Nearly New Cashmere as we offer a repair service.
4.
Save energy by using LED bulbs. They are said to use 85% less energy that older more traditional bulbs.
5.
Try and cut down on the miles you do in your car. Over 50% of car journeys are under 2 miles. If the weathers nice why not cycle or walk?
