5 WAYS TO WEAR MEN'S CASHMERE CARDIGANS

The cardigan is an interesting piece of clothing. Like many men’s cashmere jumpers, it can be worn for both casual and smart occasions and spreads across a wide array of different areas within fashion whilst also keeping you warm.

WHERE DOES THE CARDIGAN COME FROM?

The cardigan is actually named after the British Army general who lead the Charge of the Light Brigade, James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan. It is supposedly modelled on the waistcoat the British soldiers wore at the time. There is a certain amount of irony in this of course as typically people would expect it to originally have been a women's item. I'm personally not sure how this has become the image of cardigans but I'm here to demonstrate why a cardigan has a place in every man's wardrobe, and if they're lucky, a cashmere one too...

WITH A SUIT

As being demonstrated by the fella above. A cardigan looks great with a suit. I personally prefer a less folded pocket square but either way he’s looking pretty sharp. This is going to work best on cooler days.

WITH A SHIRT

You can ditch the jacket and rock a bit of grandad chic. This particular image shows a classic cardigan over a shirt and tie, suitable for smart casual occasions when it’s a little bit nippy outside.

CASUAL

Don’t be put off by the skinny jeans if they’re not your thing, this works with cords or chinos. A cardigan, especially unbuttoned, thrown over a t-shirt makes for great casual style. We don’t recommend walking in the middle of the road, this guy’s clearly feeling confident in his cardi, good for him.

SHORTSLEEVE/WAISTCOAT

There’s a bit of debate about whether you can consider these cardigans or if they’re just vests or waistcoats. Either way they’re worth a mention as they will be better for those warmer days which are hopefully just around the corner. Also worth noting they're much easier under a jacket or blazer.

STREETWEAR/ URBAN

Finally, is a more streetwear/urban look. This demonstrates the versatility of the man’s cashmere cardigan. The same item of clothing can create a completely different look. Personally, more to my taste. However, if you're anything like my dad you strongly disapprove of such 'yobbish' clothing.
